3D PRINTING AND ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING

3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing are generic terms given to processes that create or manufacture an object by building it up one layer at a time as opposed to milling or machining, which are subtractive processes.

The original intent of this process was to make quick prototypes. However, during the past 20 years the technology has migrated slowly to Direct Digital Manufacturing or what is commonly known as CAD to Part or CAD to Metal.

"WELCOME TO THE CAD-TO-METAL REVOLUTION"

Picture
CAD to Part or CAD to Metal is a revolutionary way of manufacturing where a highly
skilled designer or engineer makes the part using Computed-Aided Design (CAD)
or a similar software. Once the part is validated and approved for manufacturing,
the design goes straight into a metal 3D Printer or Additive Manufacturing
Device that will make parts from metals in powder form such as
Titanium or Cobalt Chrome.

Currently this process is mostly used for Aerospace and Biomedical applications.
As this technology evolves and expands into other industries, its only
limitations are size of parts and the creativity as well as
imagination of its users and early adopters.
